This 1984 Ferrari 400i is one of the finest surviving examples of Ferrari’s refined V12 2+2 grand tourer—remarkably original and preserved with just over 33,000 kilometers (~22,000 miles) from new. Finished in ultra-rare Blu Scuro over Crema with blue carpeting and console, it showcases an elegant, custom-ordered aesthetic that sets it apart from its contemporaries. Originally delivered in Germany and imported as a gray-market car, it went on to win multiple FCA Concours awards, including two 1st in Class trophies and the National Preservation Award. With a long history of respected Ferrari collector ownership and extensive documentation, this 400i is both a time capsule and a concours-quality example of understated Ferrari excellence.
-
Produced from 1979 to 1985, the Ferrari 400i was the final evolution of Ferrari’s front-engine V12 GT platform and the first Ferrari equipped with fuel injection. Designed by Pininfarina, the 400i paired elegance with usability, offering a smooth-shifting 3-speed automatic transmission and refined road manners ideal for long-distance touring.
Though never officially sold in the U.S., many were imported as gray-market cars. Today, the 400i is being rediscovered by collectors for its understated beauty, V12 performance, and analog Ferrari experience. This particular example, ordered in Blu Scuro—believed to be a special-order color phased out in 1983—is exceptionally rare. Only a handful of period Ferraris, including a few Testarossas, were ever finished in Blu Scuro.
